You spend your day folded forward — desk, phone, car, bench. Your hip flexors shorten, your thoracic spine locks into flexion, and your lower back takes the load it wasn't built to carry alone. That's the pattern behind most non-traumatic back pain, and it's a mobility problem, not a strength problem.

This is a multi-level arch that bends your spine the opposite direction. Three height settings — you start at the lowest and work up as your extension improves.

What it does

Lying back over the arch puts your spine into passive extension and opens up the front of your hips and chest. Extension is the direction almost nobody moves in during a normal day, and it's the one that decompresses rather than loads the lumbar discs.

The cervical piece does the same for your neck — supported extension instead of the forward-head position a screen puts you in.

Where it hits

  • Lower back — passive lumbar extension and decompression
  • Hips — hip flexors get lengthened instead of shortened
  • Upper back and shoulders — thoracic extension, chest opening

How to use it

Lowest setting, five minutes, hands overhead. That's the whole session. If you feel sharp pain rather than a stretch, come off it — this should feel like relief, not effort. Work up to the higher settings over weeks, not days.

If you have a diagnosed disc condition, spinal stenosis, or osteoporosis, check with your doctor before using extension-based stretching. Extension isn't right for every back.
